This week, talking points on BL2017-739 were provided to Metro Nashville Council members so they could explain to constituents why they support an ordinance that would effectively convert Nashville’s “welcoming city” into a legally recognized sanctuary city. The talking points were written by Soros funded organizations that work to shield illegal aliens from deportation.
Councilman Mina Johnson who is a co-sponsor of the ordinance says “[she] would like to call [the ordinance] “Nashville Together” or the “Family Friendly City Bill” because it will:
give immigrant families peace of mind that their families will not be separated so long as they continue to live their lives abiding by the law. This ordinance will make Nashville a truly warm and welcoming city and a safe place for all to live.
The TN Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) assisted in drafting the ordinance and along with the San Francisco – based Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), also helped draft the talking points being circulated by Metro Council members. Both TIRRC and the ILRC are recipients of funding from the George Soros Open Society Foundations and the Soros front group Neo Philanthropy.
The Soros funded Open Society Foundations grants help support “organizations that promote open borders, mass immigration, a watering down of current immigration laws, increased rights and benefits for illegal aliens, and ultimately amnesty.”
Within days of President Trump issuing his Executive Order on border security and interior enforcement of U.S. immigration laws, TIRRC issued a state-wide call to organize against efforts by U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement to follow the President’s orders:
Last week the president shared his blueprints for mass deportation and made clear he needs state and local agencies to act as his deportation force. Join with TIRRC members in your local area to stop your city/county from collaborating with ICE and to create communities of trust where all residents feel safe. Non-cooperation with ICE is emblematic of how sanctuary jurisdictions operate.
In 2007, with support from George Soros’ Open Society Foundation’s Four Freedoms Fund, TIRRC’s director began organizing what became the “Welcoming America” organization which launched in 2009. Between 2012 and 2015, TIRRC has received over $1.3 million of Soros funding through Neo Philanthropy.
Today, Welcoming America is networked through many U.S. cities and towns and also works with groups like the Partnership for a New American Economy (PNAE) which promotes legal and illegal immigration in Nashville.
Gubernatorial candidate Randy Boyd is a named member of the PNAE.
Before joining ILRC, several of the staff first trained as Soros Justice Fellows. ILRC’s 2015 financial report shows total assets of over $17 million and lists both Neo Philanthropy and the Open Society Foundations among its donors. This year in California, the ILRC helped orchestrate a plan to prohibit local and county jails from increasing the number of beds available for ICE detainees and from entering into new contracts to detain criminal illegal aliens for ICE pickup.
Pushing “back against immigration enforcement” is about creating sanctuary jurisdictions, a mainstay of ILRC’s business:
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) has been at the forefront of campaigns locally and nationally to fight back against immigration enforcement and protect immigrant rights.
The ILRC provides resources and support to communities and organizations working on immigration enforcement issues, including background explanations, strategy tools for campaigns, legal and policy analyses, and ongoing assistance to campaigns fighting against unfair immigration enforcement.
For now, the lead sponsors of the Metro Nashville Council’s sanctuary city ordinances have withdrawn the bills. Both TIRRC and ILRC are opposing two bills in Congress that would make establishing sanctuary cities extremely difficult. One bill if passed, would bar local jurisdictions from prohibiting the collection of immigration status information. This provision was included in the Metro ordinance which closely tracked the same language in Seattle’s municipal code. Seattle is suing to challenge the President’s Executive Order that takes on sanctuary cities.
Wolf Woman — excellent comment. Well said indeed.
Mina Johnson uses the word “immigrant” to describe people from other countries who have entered the U.S. ILLEGALLY. She is trying to pull a fast one on us by falsely intimating that these people are actual immigrants and not illegal aliens who have broken the law of our land getting here. Simply by being here, they are not immigrants but are criminals.
Mina and her cohorts say if we don’t accept these economic colonizers who flood our city with under-the-table cheap labor, we’re not being “warm and welcoming.”
Don’t lay a guilt trip on us, Mina. Nashville has always been a friendly and welcoming place due to its religious underpinning but we have also historically been a city of law-abiding citizens. Don’t make me laugh by saying the city will be “safe.” If the Metro Council has its way, we will become a city where U.S. laws don’t count – where gangs like MS13 bring in drugs and crime and the other illegals become a serf-class who have to be subsidized by our tax dollars.
And then, to add insult to injury, socialists like Mina Johnson and Megan Barry back organizations like TIRRC and Conexion Americas with its ties to La Raza (the Race) which are fronts for socialist nationalistic movements who bring diseases into our neighborhoods, fly their own flags at protests, flaunt our laws by using fake social security numbers and commit voter fraud.
The Metro Council cares more about the numbers of votes they will get from the influx of these illegals than they care about the welfare of native citizens. Many of the illegals are from countries with socialist governments that don’t work and are impoverished due to bureaucratic mismanagement. That is what Nashville will become as a sanctuary city.
Immigration to the U.S. has a procedure to follow for those who want to live here. The Metro Council wants to open our doors to people who feel that they don’t need to follow our immigration law. Why then should the Council think they will follow any other laws they don’t like?
Progressive socialists are self-righteous, arrogant elitists who think they are “doing good” by taking in all the poor oppressed people of the world. They should take a good look at Mexico, El Salvador, San Salvador, Cuba, Venezuela, Sweden, etc to see what results the socialist/neo-marxist ideology produces for a society.
Very very well said!
Soros is pure trash. If his fingerprints are on the plan, you know it is bad for the city, state, and country, and good for his pocketbook.
